WEEK 1: Focus: What is
sacrifice?
CORE-Leadership
Knowledge: Do all of these
#1
Plan out your week and either write it down in your planner or plan it out with
your parent/running partner.
#2 Do a Word Study: Sacrifice and bring it to
share
#3
Read the opening article, scripture for the month, and Gettysburg address at
least one time
#4
Read Max Lucado: Ch 3 “The Touch of God” and bring your favorite quote from it
#5
Read chapters 1-5 of “A Long Walk to Water”
Understanding: Choose one or more of the following or create one of your own
-Do
a collage or piece of art, write a poem or learn a piece of music about godly
hands or the power of touch.
-Do
another word study on a word you feel inspired to go into further depth with
after your reading
-Prayerfully
find a scripture or poem that reminds you of something you read in your
preparation for class this week and either memorize it or make a display or
card for you to hang somewhere where you will see it daily and think about it.
-Observe
and write down at least three people you know of that reach out with gentle
hands to you in your life. Write a note
thanking them.
-Write
down a list of 10 things that might make people the “social outcasts” that Max
Lucado mentioned. Pick three and think of one way each you could reach out and
help them.
-Write
down three examples of people who experience conflict in “A Long Walk to Water”
and identify a way you would have tried to act in those situations as someone
who was looking on.
Intelligence: Choose one or more of the following
-Look
around for people who could use your “touch,” through email, a warm smile, a
hand shake, a hug, a gentle word. Pick
at least one person to share a godly touch with. Write in your journal, tell a parent or
friend, or come and share how it went.
-Teach
a FHE on what you learned this week.
Come back and share how it went: favorite quotes, thoughts, comments,
etc.
Come prepared to participate in a
Simulation!
Optional inspirements!
ReplyDeleteUnderstanding:
-study leprosy and bring a presentation what you learned about it (song, poem, prezi, etc. on feelings about it...etc.)
-find your 10 favorite things to touch and write them down to share with us in class. Think about how they make you feel. Feel free to write a poem about them!
Intelligence
-Make a video about hands, hands touching and helping others and share it with us!
-Sacrifice and spend a long period of time gently touching or stroking an animal or put a baby to sleep or give your parent a back rub or foot rub. As you so this service, think about what you read about in the chapter about having a godly touch and think about how God has touched you lovingly in your life!
-Think about your favorite thing you like to touch and write a riddle about it. Bring it to class to see if we can guess what it is!
Tracy:
ReplyDeleteI firmly believe that any man's finest hour,
the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear,
is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause
and lies exhausted on the field of battle, victorious.
