March Week 2: Geo-conquest

CORE CLASS: Week 2 --Ge0-conquest!
Geo-conquest week focus: Integrity in the world around us

Know:  Learn more about integrity as you gain knowledge about North America’s early settlement and the role of integrity.  Do all of the following:
1) Plan out your week and either write it down in your planner or plan it out with your parent/running partner.
 2) Read Ch #8-16 of “Star Girl.” Write down at least 2 “unwritten rules” of the school or “society” that Star Girl violates in these chapters.
3) Read the scripture and quote for the month at least one time
4) Read the Good Samaritan and share what you thought of it either with someone or write it in your journal.
5 ) Memorize as many countries of the 23 officially recognized countries in North America as you can! (http://www.mapsofworld.com/north-america/ ) We will have prizes for the following categories: 5, 13, 20 or more.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Understand: Create understanding by doing the first inspirement below and then one or more of the ones below that (or your own!):
Do this: - Create a power point, model, report, presentation, graphic summary, video (made by you or someone else), map etc. on one of the early settlements in North America. (For some examples, see this page: http://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/pds/amerbegin/settlement/settlement.htm) You may use Bauer’s Story of the World, books from the library, or any other resource you deem worthy
Then do one or more of the following or one of your own:

·         Do some type of project about North America: a food, a map, a poster with different flags, a collection of pictures of North American children, a powerpoint with all your favorite North American animals, religions in North America, etc.

·         Consider the parable of the good Samaritan and act it out, make a poem out of it, etc.

·         What “rules” were in the society where the good Samaritan lived?  Did he act with integrity?  Think of other examples in books or in people’s lives where they were like the Good Samaritan and bring them to share.

Intelligence: Create intelligence about sacrifice by using your understanding to reach out and serve by…dum, dum, dum!
Consider what it takes to make a new settlement.  Come prepared to participate in a simulation!
