April Week 1: Leadership Academy

LEADERSHIP ACDEMY

CORE CLASS: This week we will be asking ourselves a couple questions: “What is initiative?  How does it help me be a responsible citizen?” To get ready for that, please review the following, writing down or highlighting favorite parts or quotes to share!

I. SEEK KNOWLEDGE:  Do all five
1. Plan out your week with your mentor/parent like in a weekly accountability meeting.
2. Do a Word study on “initiative”: the ability to assess and initiate things independently.  This is not in the 1828 dictionary, but synonyms are: self-motivation, resourcefulness, inventiveness, imagination, ingenuity, originality, creativity, enterprise;  Pick one to use in your study of the word “intiative”!
3. Read the first two sections of “Charlie’s Monument” (through page18 in my book)
4. Read the reading from Max Lucado: “Conclusion: Fixing your Eyes on Jesus.” (5 pages)
5. Now read the scripture and quote from Teddy Roosevelt (at least once!) and think about what all these things have in common.
II. GAIN UNDERSTANDING: After you have studied that section, pick something that came up in your studies or that came to mind as you were studying it and study it deeper to gain better understanding.  Check out the blog for ideas and suggestions, but make it your own!
My project for understanding is:________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
III. CREATE INTELLIGENCE: Do these three things
*Now, before you try to apply what you have learned, watch the following clip:
*Then repeat the following to yourself while looking in the mirror at least 5 times:
            “Whether I think I can, or whether I think I can’t, I am right!”—Jack Rabbit Factor
Now, think about what you have studied.  How can you make it a part of your life?  Make a plan and DO something to change yourself with what you have learned. (Check out the blog for ideas!)
My project for creating intelligence is: ___________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
