Sept: Week 2--Geo-Conquest!

Look at examples of humility and pride in the lives of people in history & around the world--
and then learn from them!

1. Review the poem and scripture for the month.
2.  Read the chapter on “Compassion” in Be the Change (pg 81).  Pick one of the questions in the back of the chapter to answer, write your answer down and turn it in during class.

3. Look for stories of pride and humility in your history!  Find one or more in your family history and come and share.  (Please bring a photo of the person if you can as well as a description of how they are related to you.)

4. Now let’s learn more about the world! Get ready to explore the world...Twister-style
Print up THIS map, label it with at least 20 things below and then become familiar with on which continent all the following places/things are located:

The Tower of Pisa
Switzerland
Rome
The Erie Canal
Mount Kilamanjaro
The Nile River
Paris
Egypt
India
The Himalayas
Indonesia
The Great Barrier Reef
Highest Elevation on Earth - Mt. Everest, Asia:
Tallest Mountain on Earth from Base to Peak - Mauna Kea, Hawaii:
Lowest Elevation on Land - Dead Sea:
Deepest Point in the Ocean - Challenger Deep, Mariana Trench, Western Pacific Ocean: 35,840 feet (10924 m)
Highest Temperature Recorded: 134°F (56.7°C) - Greenland Ranch in Death Valley, California, July 10, 1913
Lowest Temperature Recorded: -128.5°F (-89.2°C) - Vostok, Antarctica, July 21, 1983

5.  We are going to be having a Festival of Traditions! Bring a traditional dish, game or costume (or all three!) from anywhere in the world to share.  Please contact Abby Palmer to let her know which you will be bringing by Friday, Sept 5th so she can get it all set-up.

6. World in a Minute: what evidence do we find of humility, pride, or righteous self-confidence in the world around us?  Bring one article or news clip to share.

7. Project Time!  Come up with a deeper project from this week on your own or from the following or continue to work on your monthly one:

-Take the world map from the link above, enlarge it, and include all the items listed above (except all 100 Famous Landmarks…just pick 10 or so) (this will go toward your journeyman inspirements for Geo-conquest!)
-Make a journal (you may include pictures) of stories from your ancestors or pray about a time you want to commit to updating your Family Search account with pictures and stories from your ancestors.
-Look at the questions in Be the Change and create a project from those ideas.
-Start a month long project this week if you didn’t last week.
-Create a family cultural night with traditional food and games!
-Collect stories (and pictures?) of people who showed humility, selfish pride, or righteous self-confidence the modern world, history and/or in the scriptures. (This also goes toward a journeyman-level Imag. Arts inspirement.)  Put them into a nice album or folder for a collection.
